Cara, MetAstatic Triple NEgative Breast Cancer

Cara — @ckenwyn — is the epitome of bravery. Diagnosed July of 2018 with triple negative breast cancer, while pregnant with her second son, Cara launched into a full court press cancer treatment by starting chemo when he was three weeks old.

She tackled treatment head-on: chemo, followed by breast surgery, and then 25 rounds of radiation.

A few days before her son’s first birthday, she lost the use of her left leg.

“We discovered a 3.5 cm brain tumor along my motor cortex. Surgery was too risky, so we had to shrink the tumor first. Since then, I have done 3 types of brain radiation, including whole brain and had 2 craniotomies. The 2nd leaving me severely left side impaired,” Cara shared. “2.5 years later, I continue to rehab. In July, we received a service dog to help with my mobility. His name is Oreo. He’s awesome!”

Cara is currently thriving with metastatic triple negative breast cancer.

“I currently have mets in my brain, liver, spine and lung. The latter two have recently responded to Keytruda!” Cara shared. “I just started a new treatment for the brain, as well. This is why we need more research and targeted treatments, as well as precision medicine.”

Cara loves hanging out with her two young sons, her husband, her family and their friends. She spends a lot of time in our backyard and at local parks.

This month, Cara and her family are traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to explore museums dedicated to science, Legoland Discovery Center, gardens, and, well, all the things. Nothing slows this momma bear down.

We are better because we’re able to live in a world where humans like Cara exist. She shows us how to continue showing up through impossible situations.
