Blockhead with Grit: Marcie Bouchard's Is Kicking Cancer to the Curb

Marcie Bouchard is a self-proclaimed Blockhead and a lifelong educator specializing in special education, school mental health, and school psychology.

With a love for New Kids on the Block, she has attended more than 20 of their concerts.

Unfortunately, Marcie's journey took a challenging turn when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Adrenocortical Carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer of the adrenal glands. After several trips to the ER for intense gastrointestinal distress, she now commutes over three hours to Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for treatment, which has included surgery to remove the tumor, her left adrenal gland, spleen, and part of her pancreas, followed by 25 rounds of radiation and oral chemotherapy.

“I try to have fun when and where I can, but my life has changed so much,” Marcie shared. “I have normalized the insanity of having to work and manage my life while dealing with my medical care, but this nonsense is not normal! Even though I’m declared ‘NED,’ I will continue to have side effects of the chemotherapy for an extended amount of time.”

In a perfect turn of events, Marcie used her Love Bomb to make all the memories, front row at New Kids on the Block.

We’re grateful to know you, Marcie, and we’re really excited you’re just living and living well.
