Braving the Storm: Jennifer Tuten's Resilience in the Face of Cancer

Jennifer Tuten and her daughter, Lilley.

Jennifer Tuten shares, “Cancer has been showing up uninvited in my life since my mom’s diagnosis in 2001.” After losing her mother to metastatic breast cancer in 2014, Jennifer faced her own battle when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer as a single mother of a young daughter in 2022.

As a teacher of pre-k and kindergarten, Jennifer thought her not feeling well was simply the stress of transitioning to a new job, but it turned out to be something more serious. “It’s been the hardest on Lilley,” she shared, noting how difficult a parent’s medical diagnosis can be on children.

While Jennifer and her mom made cherished memories during her mother’s illness, she now seeks to create more moments with Lilley.

“It may sound like I’ve had it tough, but I honestly have a lot of joy too, and I’m not giving up. My daughter and I have lots more memories to make!”

No thanks to treatment, Jennifer had to cancel a a Taylor Swift concert weekend with her daughter. (Editor’s Note: Collectively, this is where we all gasp.)

Jennifer plans to use the love bomb to take Lilley on a relaxing trip to make new memories.
