Empowering Advocate, Holly Hernandez, Makes Memories with Her Family on a Louisiana Road Trip.

With experience nursing a newborn, Holly Hernandez sensed something was different when she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. As a mother to a blended family of five and a former social worker for the state of Nebraska, Holly faced the daunting decision to quit her job to focus on her family and health.

She followed the regimen of chemotherapy, surgeries, radiation, and immunotherapy, facing complications along the way, including a breast infection that hindered her reconstruction efforts. Tragically, during her treatment, Holly’s mother was hospitalized and diagnosed with cancer, passing away less than a week later. “This was a hard pill to swallow, so close to my own fight with cancer,” Holly reflected.

Despite her challenges, Holly trained to become a Young Advocate for Living Beyond Breast Cancer. “It was empowering to meet so many women who understand what breast cancer is all about. I had been spreading awareness, but unfortunately, I had to pause my advocacy due to a second diagnosis that has spread to my brain.”

“Google doesn’t have nice things to say to mTNBC patients, which is why Brooke and other mTNBC thrivers provide so much hope.”

A Memory-Filled Adventure

With an assist from a Love Bomb, this summer Holly and her family traveled to southern Louisiana to visit family. Seeing where her husband grew up and experiencing some of his Cajun traditions first hand was the ultimate goal and they absolutely succeeded.

While a stage 4 cancer diagnosis is the worst, Holly refuses to allow it to keep her, and her family, from making memories, experiencing life, and living fully.

Holly is selfless when it comes to advocating for women in the trenches with breast cancer and caring for her family, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to play a small role in allowing her focus on creating memories with her sweet family.

We’re cheering for you, Holly.

Love Bombs Committee

The Love Bombs committee is comprised of women who received their very own invitation to the cancer club and walked unique paths of survivorship and active treatment.

Whatever you want to call the financial contribution, Rural Gone Urban Foundation Inc. awards judgment-free grants to women in the ring with cancer who are focused on establishing a living legacy for their loved ones.
